Build a viewing sequence

Start at normal viewing distance. Note the overall color impression, then move closer to study distribution, grain, inclusions and polish. Turn the piece slowly under stable light. This sequence prevents a vivid patch from dominating every later observation.

Form changes the reading

Cabochon dome height, bangle thickness, bead matching and carving relief alter how color and light appear. GIA emphasizes symmetry, proportion, thickness and polish for fashioned jadeite. Workmanship should support the material rather than conceal its limitations.
